He also stated that all AI data centres should be powered by renewable energy by 2030, and that more than 20 countries have already supported his proposal for a UN-supported Global Network for AI Capacity Building.

No binding treaty emerged from Geneva. A second session is scheduled for New York in May 2027. For operators, the practical consequence is direct: the regulatory patchwork of national AI laws is now formally acknowledged as a multilateral gap that the UN intends to close. Teams that have built their compliance programmes around the EU AI Act alone should begin mapping exposure to whatever international framework emerges from this process.

Amodei moderates the biotech timeline

Speaking at an Anthropic event in San Francisco on 6 July, reported by STAT News, Dario Amodei stepped back from the headline forecast in his 2024 essay "Machines of Loving Grace." He had argued that AI could allow researchers to compress what we think of as a century of biological progress into roughly a decade, advancing at ten years per year. On stage, he acknowledged that such compression might itself take a decade to become visible: the models are not yet capable enough, researchers need time to build effective workflows, and regulatory and infrastructure systems have their own timescales.

This is consequential not because Amodei is wrong to moderate his prediction, but because the original claim has been widely cited as a planning premise for AI investment in life sciences. Fable 5 moves to per-token billing from tomorrow — what to do today

Claude Fable 5 is included in Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise plans through midnight on 7 July at up to 50% of weekly usage limits. From 8 July, Fable 5 draws exclusively from usage credits, billed at the standard API rate of $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. That is exactly double the rate for Opus 4.8 ($5/$25 per million) and five times the introductory rate for Claude Sonnet 5 ($2/$10 per million, in place through 31 August). White House voluntary frontier-model standards expected this week

The White House is in advanced talks with OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic to finalise voluntary standards for the release of frontier AI models, with an announcement expected as soon as this week. The standards build on the June 2 executive order "Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security" and will define benchmarks and review timelines for systems the government classifies as "covered frontier models" — those with advanced cyber capabilities above a classified capability threshold.

The framework requires AI developers to provide the federal government with access to covered frontier models 30 days before any other commercial release. This is the mechanism that has been holding GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna — previewed by OpenAI on 26 June — to a restricted circle of approximately 20 vetted partners.
